Vintage Saree: Red and Gold for Royalty - Latest Indian Saree Designs

Continuing Sunny’s red trend, here is the serenly elegant mother of Maharaja HH Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV: the Maharani Regent HH Vani Vilasa Sannidhana, by an unknown palace artist.  The portrait above her shows her late husband, Maharaja Chamaraja IX of Mysore, who died when only 31 years old.  The rich saree is truly scintillating!  And I adore the neat little pleats on the floor.
How does one wrap this beautiful style the way the maharanis used to?  It is probably a nine-yard length draped between the legs, but is it a fishtail dhoti using the mundi end instead of the pallu?  Books and videos on draping sarees don’t show a real train like this one, either over the feet or pulled to the back.  Can anybody describe how to create this look the proper way?  Below is Her Highness photographed some years later in a similar saree.  She is with her adorable grandson (born in 1919), the future Maharaja Jayachamaraja Wadiyar.
